Self-exclusion from Canada

Today it is operator by operator

Canada regulates gambling provincially rather than federally, and self-exclusion has followed the same pattern: you request it at each site, and it applies at that site. Someone with accounts at several operators has to repeat the process at every one — which is precisely what makes the decision easy to undo by opening an account somewhere else.

Where an operator is licensed by the AGCO in Ontario, provincial standards require it to offer and enforce self-exclusion alongside deposit limits, loss limits and session timers. Those are obligations, not optional features.

What changes in mid-2026

A centralised self-exclusion registry is launching, and it changes the arithmetic substantially: a single registration will apply across all 80-plus regulated Ontario iGaming sites at once, instead of having to be repeated site by site. If you are weighing this step, the tool is about to become considerably harder to circumvent — which is the point of it.

Before the strongest step, the graduated ones

A deposit limit caps money entering the account per day, week or month. It applies to the account rather than to a card or bank, so changing payment method does not bypass it, and it counts money in rather than money lost. Lowering one usually takes effect immediately; raising it goes through a waiting period, and that asymmetry is deliberate.

A time-out is a short break of days or weeks during which deposits are refused and games are locked, without entering any registry. Self-exclusion is measured in months or years and closes access rather than suspending it. Neither can be lifted early on request, and support has no authority to reverse them — that is exactly what makes them work.

Balance and bonuses

Real money still in the account is normally returned. Active bonuses, free spins and unfinished wagering progress are forfeited and do not come back when the period ends. Withdrawing what is free before confirming avoids losing it for no reason.

Help that is independent of any operator

ConnexOntario answers around the clock on 1-866-531-2600, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, and connects callers to local treatment and counselling. Every licensed Ontario operator is required to display it. It is free, and it has no relationship with this site or any casino.
